No decisions have been made yet, but the next Belleville city council will likely be deciding on the future of the old Upper Bridge over the Moira River.
The bridge is located at the north end of Front Street.
Monday, council voted to have the bridge included in a city-wide transportation master plan now under development.
Councillor Garnet Thompson knows what he’d like to see done with the structure, built back in 1930.
“I personally would like to see it discontinued as a vehicle bridge and I think we can make much better use of it as we have the other bridge not far away.”
Thompson says the bridge should be closed and used as an event space for concerts, dances, and art shows, among other things.
The bridge is in need of significant repairs and a design and detailed review is ready for council discussion in either 2023 or 2024.
