A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday in Quinte West for a new, all-inclusive playground that will be built in Centennial Park.
The playground, a project by the Lions Club of Trenton, will feature accessible equipment for all ages and abilities.
It will be built west of Trenton Seniors Club 105 on Bay Street.
There will be two phases of construction with the first phase set to start this month and be completed in August.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison says the city is pleased to offer the land for the playground and calls it a great example of community partners working together to benefit residents.
Lions Club Treasurer Mike Seymour says the primary objective of the all-inclusive playground equipment is to allow youth and seniors to feel independent and foster better health.
The Lions Club has raised more than half its $600,000 goal with fundraising efforts ongoing for the second phase of the project.
