Hundreds of patients taking part in a pilot project involving the Belleville Nurse Practitioner Clinic could soon find themselves without reliable medical care once again.
In an agreement with Quinte Health Care, the Nurse Practitioner Clinic provided healthcare to people leaving hospital who previously did not have a family doctor.
Monday, Belleville City Councillor Sean Kelly told council the six-month pilot project was slated to end this week.
“Patients are going to have a loss because the funding is not there and the Nurse Practitioner’s Clinic will have to let staff go.”
The clinic was able to help 700 patients over the past six months on top of the 2,900 people permanently on its patient list.
Kelly said he and several others have pressed Bay of Quinte riding MPP Todd Smith to have the funding extended or made permanent, so the patients wouldn’t have to again be without primary care services.
