Quinte West is launching a new summer plan to create a pedestrian-only zone in its downtown.
This new initiative will transform a section of Front Street into a pedestrian-only zone with entertainment and outdoor patios for an eight-week period this summer to increase foot traffic in the area and provide a boost for local businesses.
As part of this project, the southbound lane of Front Street from Elgin Street to Dundas Street West will close to vehicular traffic from July 3 until Aug. 29, 2022.
The northbound lane will remain open for one-way traffic.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison tells Quinte News, “This initiative is a great addition to the City’s summer events and activities.”
“Reduce traffic and promote more walk and you know more personal, personalized approach, you know.”
Mayor Harrison adds, “Promenade on Front provides the perfect opportunity to get outside and enjoy all our downtown has to offer. This initiative is a great addition to the city’s summer events and activities.”
“We are excited to bring this pedestrian-friendly experience to our downtown this summer,” says Linda Lisle, manager of economic development and tourism services with the City of Quinte West. “We look forward to offering a unique way for residents and visitors to enjoy shopping and outdoor dining while supporting nearby businesses.”
