The Director of the Special Investigations Unit has closed a case involving Quinte West OPP without laying charges saying he found no evidence of a criminal offence.
On September 29, 2021, officers arrested a 60-year-old man at Trenton Memorial Hospital for sexual assault.
The man resisted arrest and officers took him down to the floor where further force was used to subdue and handcuff the man who suffered fractured ribs as a result.
SIU Director Joseph Martino acknowledged the man’s rib fractures were the result of the force used by the involved officer, however, he found no reasonable grounds to believe that they were attributable to unlawful conduct by the officer.
