Hastings County has taken over Hastings Heritage Trail and there was a question about “who pays for what?”
Centre Hastings Mayor Tom Deline raised the question at the meeting of Hastings County Council on Thursday.
“We’re still paying a pretty good buck for our share to buy that half. Was there anything in those negotiations where the province would help subsidize what the upgrade to the trail still would be?”
County Planning Director Justin Harrow answered, “We did have some discussions around that. That wasn’t part of the negotiations. From the county’s perspective though, we have the Eastern Ontario Trails (organization) that manage that service and they provide all of our coverage and liability from that perspective. That won’t change. “Deline then asked, “Are there any upgrades that need to be done?”
Planning Director Justin Harrow answered, “The province has given a large sum of money to the OTA to manage those. A lot of those infrastructure and trail upgrades that are required are being done that way. A good portion of it is funded by the province.”
