The South Hastings Baseball League opened their 89th consecutive season last night in Melrose where Uens Pole Line defeated the Tyendinaga Mudhens 17-1. .
Both teams wore ‘BAT 44’ patches on their uniforms to honour the late John Masterson, who passed away suddenly in November.
The game was the first for the league since transitioning to wood bats only.
Ravens advance in Provincial High School Baseball
The Eastside Secondary School Ravens have advanced to the Ontario High School Baseball semi finals next week.
The Ravens scored 7 runs in the 6th inning to blow open a tight game and defeat Saint Mary’s Catholic from Cobourg 10-3.
Trent Duncan pitched the win in relief striking out nine.
He also went 3 for 4 at the plate with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
Starting pitcher Maddox Shaver was two for four with a doublel & triple with 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.
The Ravens travel to Etobicoke on June 1 & 2 for the Ontario East tournament…. looking for a birth in the OFSAA final 4 in London.
