This year at the Canada-wide Science Fair, Team Quinte brought home the gold.
Three students from the Quinte area took part in the 2022 virtual Canada-Wide Science Fair held in Fredericton from May 16-20. They were selected during the Quinte Regional Science and Technology Fair held in April.
Team Quinte was made up of Nina Graciano from Eastside Secondary School with her project Secret to Sleep, Aloe Vera, Harshita Srikanth from Eastside Secondary School with her project Creativity = TRIZ and Surya Narayan Santhakumar with his project Snow Sbot V2 from HPEDSB Virtual School.
Surya Narayan Santhakumar and his project Snow Sbot V2 received a gold medal in the Junior Division and a Challenge Award for Digital Technology. His project involved creating a robot that can help seniors by plowing snow from driveways and sidewalks.
Srikanth and her project Creativity = TRIZ won a bronze medal in the intermediate Division. Her project involved creating a novel process for recycling hardcover books by using the TRIZ (The Theory of Inventive Problem-Solving) principles to solve this environmental problem.
At CWSF the three students competed for almost a million dollars in prizes, and scholarships. During the week, they took part in many activities including judging, lab tours, inspirational seminars and speeches, chess tournaments, and the Awards Ceremony.
These young scientists have shown great dedication, expertise and determination toward science. They have been working continually on their projects over many months.
The QRSTF committee invites all students in the Hastings-Prince Edward area to start thinking about a science fair project so they can participate at QRSTF 2023.
