The topic of the controversial “Holding Court” sculpture of Sir John A. Macdonald will again be in front of Prince Edward County for discussion Wednesday evening.
Council is holding a special online meeting on the sculpture and a proposed special display revolving around the history of Indian residential schools, especially focused on this part of the province.
County staff is recommending a permanent and evolving exhibit be placed in Macauley Heritage Park in Macauley Church.
It’s being recommended the partners in the exhibit be the Language and Cultural Centre on Tyendinaga Territory (Tyonnheht Onkwawen:na) along with the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund.
Staff is recommending that the “Holding Court” sculpture be returned to the donor as both the artist and local Macdonald Project group do not want the statue placed in a location displaying information on residential schools.
The special meeting starts at 6 p.m. and can be seen on Prince Edward County’s YouTube channel.
