Belleville police responded to 182 calls for service over the weekend from 5 a.m. on April 23, 2022 to 5 a.m. on April 25, 2022.
Impaired & Operation of Motor Vehicle Over 80
On April 22, 2022, at 8:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in the west side of the city. Officers located the suspect vehicle on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road near Highway 401. The vehicle was stopped and the driver took a roadside breath screening test. The accused man from Belleville, 48-year-old Kala Sidhu, was arrested for Impaired driving and over 80mgs. He was taken to the Belleville Police Service where he provided further breath samples and was later released with a court date of May 19, 2022 to face his charges.
Arrested on Warrants
On April 23, 2022, at 4:30 a.m., police attended an apartment complex on Moira Street East regarding a disturbance. Officers located a 30-year-old female on scene who they found to have outstanding warrants. The accused, Jaquelin Bloor of Belleville, was arrested on the warrants for failing to attend court and failing to comply with a probation order. She was transported to the Belleville Police Service where she was later released with a court date of May 26, 2022.
MVC results in Criminal Negligence Charge
On April 23, 2022, at 11:05 p.m., police responded to a single motor vehicle rollover on Highway 2 just east of Point Anne Road. The subject vehicle was occupied by a 46-year-old female driver from Belleville and a 40-year-old male passenger from Belleville. The female driver did not sustain any injuries and the male passenger was transported to Belleville General Hospital with minor injuries. The Belleville Police Traffic Safety Unit was called to the scene to investigate the crash. Further investigation of the incident led police to arrest and charge the male passenger with criminal negligence. He was released with a court date of May 16, 2022.
Impaired Driving & Dangerous Driving
On April 24, 2022, at 6:50 p.m., police received a report of a gray van doing burn-outs in the middle of the street, narrowly colliding with a tree in the area. Police arrived on scene and located the suspect and arrested him for dangerous driving. The accused was transported to the Belleville Police Service where he was required to provide samples of his breath for alcohol impairment purposes. The accused refused to comply with police and was subsequently charged with the following criminal charges;
- Dangerous Driving
- Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Fail to Comply with Breath Demand
The accused, 41-year-old Michael McHugh of Belleville, will appear in court on May 26, 2022, to answer to the charges.
Domestic Assault
On April 24, 2022 at 7:45 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute in the west end of the city. On scene, police observed a female and a male to be intoxicated and both appeared to have minor injuries from their dispute. Neither party required medical attention. The investigation revealed that both individuals were equally involved and therefore both were arrested for assault and transported to the Belleville Police Service. The 25-year-old male from Belleville and the 24-year-old female from Belleville were later released after they were sober and will appear in court on May 30, 2022.
