Non-profit organizations in the Quinte region are set to get some provincial aid to offset the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Monday, Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith was at Heal with Horses Therapeutic Centre in Prince Edward County, to announce 12 non-profit organizations in the region will receive $729,400 in funding through Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Resilient Communities Fund.
“Non-profit organizations are a crucial and valued part of any community,” said Smith. “Countless people rely on their services every day, and even facing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, they still deliver. This funding will help them offset those impacts and continue supporting those who need it most.”

The Resilient Communities Fund provides grants of up to $150,000 to eligible non-profits to cover a broad range of needs including;
- Mental and physical health and well-being supports for staff or volunteers.
- Support to adapt or reimagine program delivery and services to meet the needs of communities, employees and volunteers, incorporate new health and safety processes, or purchase new technology and personal protective equipment.
- Renovations and facility updates to meet the changing needs of the communities they serve.
Heal with Horses Therapeutic Centre is a registered Canadian charity providing horse and small animal-related activities and programs with a primary focus on promoting physical and mental health and wellness to guests.
Suzanne Latchford-Kulker, founder and executive director at Heal with Horses says the fund will allow the centre to make various updates to the site and programming.
“The Community Resilient grant. It’s allowing us to develop certain areas of the property. For instance, to open up more revenue streams, so experiences, like ours is called the Equine Soul Session, and also to renovate our clubhouse and implement a gift shop.”
In total, the Ontario government is providing $95.8 million this year through the Resilient Communities Fund to help 1,146 non-profit organizations recover and rebuild.
