Quinte West OPP officers will be wearing body cameras starting next month.
Cameras with automatic licence plate detectors will also be operating inside police vehicles as part of an OPP study into the technology’s benefits.
Quinte West OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Christina Reive explained how the cameras will work at a meeting of Quinte West council Monday night.
” … all managed with strict privacy legislation, they’re all disclosable through courts and freedom of information and basically they turn on when the officer turns them on or when they’re automatically triggered by a change in velocity of the car going a certain speed.”
Lennox and Addington OPP officers and cruisers are now being fitted with the cameras.
