The American Hockey League playoffs might still be five weeks away but the Belleville Senators can be forgiven if they feel like they’re in the post season right now.
For the 8th time in the month of March the B-Sens have played in games decided by one goal, seven of them in overtime or shootouts including last night’s 2-1 victory over the Rocket in Laval.
Jake Lucchini and Egor Sokolov scored in the shootout while Mads Sogaard stopped 29 shots. Sogaard stopped both shots he faced in the shootout. Cayden Primeau turned aside 41 shots for Laval.
Belleville coach Troy Mann says the goalies were the story in this one.
Clark Bishop scored for the third time in the last two games for Belleville.
Despite the win the B-Sens remain in sixth place in the tight North Division of the AHL as both the Toronto Marlies and Syracuse Crunch were winners as well.
Belleville is home for the weekend. They entertain the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Friday and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Saturday. Both games are at 7:05. Coverage on CJBQ 800 begins at 6:50.
