Belleville council might decide to have a second look at a consultant’s report estimating the needs and future finances involved in the development of a new exhibition grounds for the Belleville Agricultural Society.
In a report commissioned by the Agricultural Society consultants say a 40,000 square foot indoor arena and a 37,500 square foot multi-purpose trade and exhibition facility is needed at the location near Highway 37 and Black Diamond Road.
Consultants envision major agricultural competitions, weddings, meetings, and conventions at the site and predict revenues being higher than expenses starting in 2023.
There would be smaller outbuildings and outdoor exhibition space as well.
City of Belleville staff recommend council have another consultant review the Society’s calculations at a cost of around $20,000 “out of an abundance of caution.”
The development of the new exhibition grounds will cost over $20 million with the Agricultural Society’s share being $8.5 million.
Council will discuss the issue at today’s (Monday) regular meeting.
