UPDATE 5:00 PM: Elexicon Energy says 501-5,000 customers remain without power from Highway 401 to North Park St. to Moira St. to Palmer Rd. The estimated time of restoration is now 7:00 PM.
UPDATE 2:54 PM: Elexicon Energy states the outage continues to affect more than 5,000 customers on the west side of Belleville as well as customers between Front Street and Bleecker Avenue. Cause is unknown. Crews have been dispatched with an estimated restoration time of 4:30 P.M.
A widespread power outage is affecting parts of the Belleville area this afternoon.
The outage began around 1:40.
A tweet from Elexicon Energy indicated the outage was due to a loss of Hydro One supply but it’s not known what caused it.
Around 2 p.m., the Hydro One outage map showed more than 16,000 customers in and around Belleville were without power.
Elexicon says power has been restored in most areas with the exception of the area of Bell Blvd. to Moira St. E. and Avondale Rd. to Dundas St.
This is currently being investigated.
Belleville Police say as a result of the outage, traffic lights in the west end of the city are currently out and police have responded to several accidents at intersections as a result.
Belleville Police remind drivers to proceed with caution and treat all intersections as four stops during traffic light outages.
