The Hastings Prince Edward Public Health Unit is reporting four new deaths from COVID-19 today (Wednesday).
The number of COVID-related deaths now stands at 28. Two deaths were in people aged 60-69 and the other two were in people in the 70 plus age category.
There was also a significant drop in active high risk cases in the two counties reported.
The Health Unit is reporting 848 active cases today, down from 1,357 on Monday.
The number of new active cases also dropped by about half from 167 to 87.
The actual number of infections in the community will be much higher as only high risk cases are being reported.
There are 20 outbreaks ongoing at this time.
The Health Unit is reporting 35 people in hospital at this time because of the virus and seven of those are in the Intensive Care Unit.
As of today, 88% of residents have received their first does of a COVID-19 vaccine and 80% are fully vaccinated.
