Environment Canada has upgraded the winter weather warning to a winter storm warning in the Quinte region.
The weather agency states winter storm conditions are expected Sunday night into Monday as heavy snow is expected. Total snowfall amounts of 25 to 40 cm are possible by Monday night. Peak snowfall rates of 2 to 5 cm per hour are possible Monday morning into Monday afternoon.
There remains uncertainty in the exact track of the system which will affect where the area of heaviest snow sets up. Snowfall amounts are expected to decrease sharply along the western edge of the storm system. Local blowing snow is also possible Monday afternoon and evening with gusty northerly to northwesterly winds.
Avoid travel if possible. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.
