A well-known resident of Prince Edward County has passed away after a battle with cancer.
Mayor Steve Ferguson announced via Facebook Monday that Owen Jones, a lifelong county resident known for dutifully cleaning out gutters and shovelling snow on Picton Main Street, succumbed to cancer on Christmas Day.
In the Facebook post, Ferguson said:
“He worked long days and the locations he chose to work on seemed arbitrary – one day “scooping” near the Sobeys Plaza, the next day further down Main Street outside the library, the day after that near Shire Hall. He rarely, if ever, engaged in conversation or even acknowledged a ‘thank you’ from a passerby.”
Ferguson said he will be sorely missed for his dedication to making the town better and said that he has asked that the flag at Shire Hall be lowered in his honour.
