The Trenton Golden Hawks continued their dominance so far in the 2021-22 OJHL season Friday night with a 4-3 win over the visiting Toronto Patriots, their eighth win in a row.
Coming off a 5-3 win over the Cobourg Cougars on Monday Trenton entered Friday’s contest sitting comfortably atop the East Division standings.
It was the Patriots who opened the scoring just three-and-a-half minutes into the first period but just past the halfway point of the frame the Golden Hawks answered with an Aaron Jameison power play goal to knot the game at one.
In the second, Toronto’s McKay Hayes scored his second goal of the game to give the Patriots a 2-1 edge and carried the lead into the intermission.
In the third, both teams came out firing.
Jake Campbell scored his team leading 18th goal of the year to tie the game but just four minutes later Hayes scored his third of the night to complete the hat trick and regain the Toronto lead.
It was a late push that set the Golden Hawks on top as Ryan O’Toole scored his first goal for Trenton and Brannon Butler scored the game winner just one minute after that to seal a 4-3 Trenton win.
Ethan Taylor was strong in net for Trenton stopping 27 of 30 shots faced on the night and Dalton Bancroft, McIntosh and Julien Jacob each had two points in the winning effort.
Next up for Trenton is a matchup versus the visiting Haliburton County Huskies on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
