Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit, will not lay criminal charges against a Cobourg police officer following an incident in which a man broke his hand.
Police responded to the Cobourg downtown area January 17 after a reports a man had punched a vehicle with a woman inside and assaulted two men who tried to help the woman.
An officer handcuffed the man taking him into custody.
SIU Director Joseph Martino says video evidence strongly suggests the man broke his hand hitting the vehicle or fighting with the two men before police arrived.
