There’s been a sudden increase in the number of people being treated in hospital for COVID-19 in Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
After reporting no one in hospital on Friday, Monday the health unit said four people were being cared for at Belleville General, with two of them being in the Intensive Care Unit.
A hospital spokesperson tells Quinte News all hospitalized cases are local as BGH has not treated any patients from other jurisdictions since the third wave.
The vaccination status of those in hospital is not known.
Meanwhile seven new cases of COVID-19 were reported Monday with four of the positive tests found in people who were fully vaccinated and three in unvaccinated people.
Three of the cases were located in Belleville, two in Prince Edward County, and one each in Quinte West and the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
There are no active outbreaks in Hastings-Prince Edward.
There were two new cases of COVID-19 reported Monday in Northumberland.
The Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit says there are seven active cases.
