Belleville council had no problem supporting an in-person Santa Claus parade in the city later this month.
Monday council gave its approval to the Chamber of Commerce to go ahead with a 60 float parade on November 21, running west to east on Bridge Street. The parade will begin at the fairgrounds at 4:30 on that day.
Council is also offering various kinds of support to put the parade on.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk thanked the Chamber’s staff for all the hard work they had done preparing a parade even when until recently it was unsure whether pandemic restrictions would be lifted enough to hold one.
Chamber Chief Executive Officer Jill Raycroft in turn thanked her colleague Susan Walsh for doing the lion’s share of the organizing, a process that’s taken several months.
