“These places are sacred for a lot of people and it’s something that’s very emotional for the community at large so it’s something that I think means a great deal to the community that we do as much as we possibly can to try and find out who’s responsible.”
Sergeant Kiley says they are looking into whether the Belleville incidents are connected in any way to vandalism at four Quinte West cemeteries late last month where about 75 headstones were defaced or at the Cataraqui Cemetery in Kingston where more than 100 headstones were vandalized.
“I think that we can say there’s definitely some similarities between what had occurred in Quinte West as well as what occurred in Kingston. I think it would be speculation at this point if we could say whether the same individuals were responsible. But, based on the vandalism that occurred at all three locations there is definitely similarities for sure.”
