The Municipality of Brighton’s Integrity Commissioner is recommending a reprimand for Councillor Mary Tadman.
After an investigation requested by Mayor Brian Ostrander the Commissioner determined that Tadman had released confidential information to former Mayor Mark Walas and a friend in Toronto about the identity of an employee who was to be terminated.
The termination was part of a municipal reorganization and discussed at a closed council meeting in June.
The Commissioner says maintaining confidentiality of all matters discussed in closed meetings is a “cardinal rule” of governance and recommends Tadman’s pay be suspended for between 30 and 45 days.
Brighton council will discuss the report at a virtual meeting tonight.
The complete Integrity Commissioner’s report can be seen on Brighton council’s agenda.
