Belleville police responded to 75 calls for service between 5 a.m. on October 25, 2021 and 5 a.m. on October 26, 2021.
Mischief and theft
On October 25, 2021 at 7:50 p.m.,, police attended the YMCA Belleville regarding a vehicle that had been damaged and items being stolen. The victim advised that her vehicle was parked in the parking lot between 6:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. during which time the unknown suspect had broken a window and taken a wallet and jackets. Anyone who may have information regarding the incident is asked to contact Belleville Police.
Arrest on warrants and drug charges
On October 26, 2021 at 12:20 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on Bay Bridge Road after recognizing it from previous police involvements. The driver of the vehicle advised that he was unlicensed and officers learned he was prohibited from driving without an ignition interlock device stemming from a previous driving-related criminal conviction. Police also identified the passenger of the vehicle who was wanted on several outstanding warrants for uttering threats, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a Schedule I substance, and failing to attend court. Both occupants were arrested, and subsequent to the arrest, police located a bag of cocaine in the vehicle.
The driver, 28-year-old Shawn Chambers of Belleville, was charged with operation while prohibited, and possession of a Schedule 1 substance. He was released with a court date of December 6, 2021. The passenger, a 34-year-old Belleville man, was held in custody on his outstanding warrants as well as an additional charge of possession of a Schedule 1 substance. He will appear for a bail hearing on October 26.
