Prince Edward County council has approved a funding agreement that will bring seven new lookouts the the Harbour Trail in Picton Harbour.
The agreement, with the federal government’s Canada Community Revitalization Fund, will see the government provide $262,500 while the county contributes $87,500 for the revitalization of Picton Harbour.
According to the staff report, public consultation indicated that there was a strong appetite for more outdoor public spaces for rest, recreation and informal gathering.
The authorization of the funding agreement will signal the first steps towards improvement of Picton Harbour.
The funding was awarded after the Harbour Boardwalk Task Team developed the Harbour Trail concept.
The seven new lookouts will be placed at existing or planned green spaces along the shoreline and may be outfitted with seating, shade and cultural history panels.
Staff estimate that each lookout will cost $50,000 for a total of $350,000.
The next step is informing the public of the work that will be done to implement the project which will include a dedicated page on the Have Your Say website that outlines the scope of the work and the timeline.
