The mayor of Belleville has weighed in on the ongoing strike at Shorelines Casino.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk told council there were safety concerns because of picketing on the weekend but that he was happy to hear the strikers would be letting emergency vehicles pass through picket lines immediately.
However Panciuk stressed one point in particular.
“I do call on both sides to get back to the negotiating table and come to an agreement. This disruption is not good for the business, it’s not good for the employees, and it’s not good for our community.”
Meanwhile, the casino’s operators Great Canadian Gaming are seeking a court injunction to stop strikers from holding up traffic.
