The executive director of United Way Hastings-Prince Edward County appeared at Belleville city council’s meeting Monday but did not ask for a monetary donation to their annual fundraising campaign.
Brandi Hodge said the City of Belleville was already doing great things for the United Way such as its employee payroll campaign.
“We need our elected officials to be ambassadors on behalf of the campaign. We are the largest funder of the non-profit sector outside of government and without the success of the United Way campaign it would mean many programs and services would not be successful.”
United Way provided funding for 51 community service agencies providing 93 various programs last year.
Those programs supported young students, senior citizens, and vulnerable people of all kinds who were all seriously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
