In light of a fatal accident in September a member of the community is calling for change, and is using an online petition to bring it about.
In the early morning hours of Thursday, September 16 a driver was killed in the village of Havelock when they were struck from behind by a tractor trailer while stopped behind a commercial motor vehicle at traffic lights on Highway 7 and County Road 30.
On the change.org petition web page, Laurie Patterson-Bridges said that “there have been numerous accidents on Hwy 7 going through Havelock due to vehicles not slowing down when heading west.”
She also said that when the Havelock Jamboree, an annual music festival in the village, is happening it’s “five times worse.”
She is calling on the Ministry of Transportation, Peterborough County and Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Council to install traffic lights at Highway 7 and Mary Street to limit accidents and potentially save lives.
