It appears issues involving a busy Wellington motel aren’t going to be resolved any time soon.
At Thursday’s Committee of the Whole, council heard from the lawyer for the owners of the Lakeside Motel which also has a restaurant and large patio.
In his deputation, John Alati refuted claims made by some neighbouring residents at a previous meeting, who complained about noise, parking, light and other issues.
“By-law enforcement officials have visited the motel frequently to investigate complaints. To my knowledge there have been no notices of violations ever issued nor has it resulted in any work orders or notices to comply or anything of that nature.”
Alati presented letters from other neighbours to the property that they have never had any issues with noise from the restaurant.
“And they clearly articulate in their letters that there are no issues with noise there. The closest neighbour to my client, they say my client operates a very respectful business. They confirm that the music goes off at 11 p.m.”
He also said his client is prepared to enter into a site plan agreement with the municipality.
Amy Bodman, who previously spoke to council with concerns about the motel, spoke again on Thursday suggesting the motel is no longer the primary function of the business which now appears to be operating more as a bar and restaurant.
Councillor Mike Harper, who represents Wellington echoed that sentiment, says that some residents feel the establishment has shifted from the original expectation of just a motel to a motel/restaurant.
Council made no decisions and simply received the deputation.
