Some young people are not stepping up to get their COVID-19 vaccine shots.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Piotr Oglaza told the Board of Health Wednesday that the area has not reached a level of vaccine uptake that would be reassuring.
“That group has historically been the population between 18 and 29, but we see a lot of drop in that younger adult population.”
He added that there is increased risk, increased likelihood of members of that age group to gather together and perhaps transmit infection.
“These are the groups, regardless of where they reside, which part of Hastings Prince Edward area, regardless which part of the province. He added, “Other age groups, if you look at our demographic, 60 and above, nearly 100% of people have got two doses. Our 12 to 17 population is also gaining in terms of uptick as well.. We’ve made really good progress. Still working on those groups that are at the lower uptick. That’s where we are making the steady progress.”
