The City of Belleville has received a generous donation from a local committee for the creation of a courtyard and garden to be placed along an east end trail.
Tuesday, the Dr. James Bertram Collip Memorial Committee presented Mayor Mitch Panciuk with a cheque for $50,000.
The late Dr. Collip was a Belleville native and instrumental in the creation of insulin used to treat diabetes.
The donation will be used to fund the Dr. Collip Courtyard and Reflection Garden now being developed on the Bayshore Trail behind Belleville General Hospital.
An official ceremony is expected October 16.
