Members of Brighton council did some time travelling Tuesday.
Upon completion of the construction of the Brighton Municipal Centre 39 years ago in 1982
the council of the day decided to include a time capsule containing a copy of the Brighton Independent newspaper, a local directory, brief biographies of council members, and other small items.
The capsule was discovered recently while work was being done on a wall of the building.
Attending the original dedication in 1982 were Mayor Bill Pettingill, Reeve Glen Quick, Deputy Reeve Roy Rittwage, and councillors Al Zinck, Bill Mound, and Ray Simpson. The project architect Paul Weigand was also there.
The time capsule and contents will be displayed in the foyer of the Municipal Centre for a month before being handed to the Northumberland Archives for permanent storage.
