Two retiring teachers from the GTA are making a new home in Perth, but the way they are moving themselves is quite unique.
Leslie Hoyle and Bill Elgie are travelling from their old home in Georgetown by canoe, and travelling through the Quinte region as we speak.

Elgie details the plan.
“Our plan is about 28 days, 500 kilometres, we are shooting for 20-25 kilometres a day.”
Hoyle describes the bodies of water on the 500 kilometre journey.
“We started on the Credit River, to Lake Ontario, and then along the north shore of Lake Ontario to here (Bay of Quinte), and then we‘re going to just keep going until we get to Kingston, and up the Rideau Canal (Rideau River) to the Tate Canal, and then down Jebb’s Creek into Otty Lake. Our home is about a kilometre and a half from Otty Lake.”
The trip hit the half way mark in Trenton, where the couple celebrated their 31st anniversary Tuesday at the King’s Inn B&B. They travelled through to Belleville Wednesday, and are making their way to Prince Edward County Thursday, before crossing back into Lake Ontario at Glenora (The County).

One pack with camping gear, one sack each for clothing, dried and hydrated food, a small stove, the paddles and the canoe are all they have with them. There are some locations they have to portage as well.
They spoke to Quinte News while having lunch on the shores of the Bay at Quinte at Potters Creek Conservation Area (Quinte Conservation Area at Old Highway 2 west of Wallbridge-Loyalist Road) on Wednesday afternoon.
