A single vehicle crash in Quinte West has resulted in several charges, including abandoning a child, against a 32-year-old woman.
Around 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Quinte West OPP responded to a report of a collision on Bell Boulevard at Wallbridge-Loyalist Road where officers found a van which had been reported stolen in the ditch.
Police located the alleged driver at a nearby business.
The driver was arrested after displaying signs of impairment and further investigation revealed a young child had allegedly been left alone at the accused person’s residence.
A 32-year-old Quinte West woman was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Theft over $5000 of a motor vehicle
- Theft under $5000 – shoplifting
- Theft under $5000
- Fail to provide the necessaries of life – child
- Abandoning child
- Fail to remain
- Fail to report accident
- Drive motor vehicle – no license
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
Police are not releasing their name in order to protect the identity of the child.
