A Belleville man faces numerous charges after Kingston Police tried several times to stop an erratic driver.
Officers on general patrol tried to stop a truck for a driving offence around 9:30 last Wednesday night on Division Street but the motorist took off, driving recklessly into the oncoming lane of traffic to evade police.
Police tried to pull over the driver several more times but were forced to abandon those attempts in the interest of public safety.
Eventually, police tracked the suspect down and were able to deploy stop sticks and disable the vehicle’s tires.
The accused fled on foot and was eventually arrested with the help of a Kingston Police Canine Unit in a wooded area off Len Birchall Way early on the morning of July 1.
The truck involved in the incident had been stolen from the Gananoque area earlier that evening.
A 44-year-old Belleville was charged with seven counts of dangerous driving, seven counts of failing to stop for police, and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.
