Brighton council is working toward allowing more affordable housing in the community.
At Monday’s meeting staff was directed to amend policies to allow the building of stand-alone
living space on properties with enough room.

Mayor Brian Ostrander outlines what the current situation is.
“Today for example you couldn’t build a structure but you can convert one or renovate for one and there are lots of people who would like to construct nanny flats or garden suites.”
A staff report will come back to Brighton council for approval.
