A Belleville veteran celebrates a special birthday this Sunday.
Bill Robertson turns 100 years old.
On Friday, some members of 8 Air Maintenance Squadron from CFB Trenton and some representatives of 418 (Belleville) Wing RCAF Association paid a visit to Robertson, at Quinte Gardens, to mark the occasion.
The number of people attending was restricted by the COVID-19 pandemic rules.
During World War II, Robertson was a “bomb aimer” with the RCAF, on bombing missions over Europe.
During one of those bombing raids his Halifax bomber went down over Belgium.
Robertson, along with some other members of his crew, spent months in Belgium, hiding out from the Germans.
Lieutenant Colonel Adam Emond presented Robertson with a plaque from 8 Air Maintenance Squadron.
President Murray Hope and some other representatives of 418 Wing gave congratulations as well.
