UPDATED on April 8/21 @ 9:35 p.m. : Quinte Health Care is hoping to take over the role of reporting COVID-19-related hospitalizations.
QHC Spokesperson Catherine Walker tells Quinte News that “given the rapidly evolving situation” it has reached out to Hastings-Prince Edward Public Health about having QHC post “the most recent hospitalization information”.
Walker says if agreed upon, “the health unit would continue to report HPE specific case numbers” and QHC would post information about the activity within it’s four hospitals, including the ICU.
As of Thursday afternoon, QHC says there are 11 patients at BGH being treated for COVID-19, with four of them in the intensive care unit and two of them on ventilators.
We’ll have more on the story Friday.

As local cases increase, Quinte Health Care has decided to start releasing its own numbers of COVID-19 patients currently under care at Belleville General Hospital.
As of Thursday afternoon, QHC says there are 11 patients at BGH being treated for COVID-19, with four of them in the intensive care unit and two of them on ventilators.
The numbers are different than the last update to the Hastings Prince Edward Public Health COVID-19 Dashboard, but the health unit says that differences in hospitalization numbers could be due to some patients no longer needing case and contact management through HPE Public Health.
QHC says it will update its hospitalization numbers regularly and you can see those stats by clicking here.
