If you drive Old Highway 2 through Bayside on a regular basis, you have been seeing progress at the site of Hospice Quinte.
In September, ground broke across from Bayside Secondary School, with completion expected this fall.
Hospice Executive Director Jennifer May-Anderson says they are around the halfway point on the project.
“The roof is on, the siding is up in a lot of the places, the windows are all in, so now the work really moves to the inside. Drywall is going in, I had a walk-through to see the rooms roughed in. It is really, really taking shape.”
Fundraising continues towards the $9.5 million target.
“We are just under 80% of our goal, so we are really getting there. This is a big push at the final stages to get us over the top. We have had a great group of people working with us.”
The City of Quinte West donated the land for the building, with Quinte West and the City of Belleville each donating $1 million. Tyendinaga Township has given $75,000, and May-Anderson says they have requested funds from the Town of Deseronto and the County of Hastings. She says they will also be making a financial request to the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte. The Ontario Government has also invested $1 million for the new build.
May-Anderson says the construction is on schedule.
“We are hoping if we can continue with this very aggressive construction and completion schedule, that we will accept our first client after Thanksgiving.”
