The Town of Greater Napanee has signed on as the newest partner of the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board.
The board, which is funded by its member municipalities on a per capita basis, promotes tourism, residential and employment opportunities throughout the Quinte Region.
BQRMB Executive Director Dug Stevenson tells Quinte News the addition of Napanee to its roster will add even more opportunities to promote the region.
“It bookends the region on the north shore, but it also just allows us to have so many more assets at our fingertips. That’s a terrific downtown and the waterfront they’ve got there, let’s not forget the conservation areas and the golf course. So it’s just more for our arsenal.”
Stevenson says Napanee will join in and provide funding on a per capita basis, just like the other member municipalities of Brighton, Belleville, Quinte West and the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, but won’t be chipping in with a municipal accommodation tax, just yet.
“We take the most recent census, which is 2016, the amount of people in your community times $1.55 and that’s what they’ll fund into the organization. We’ve spoken to them about the idea of enacting a municipal accommodation tax in Napanee, but that will be up to their council to decide.”
He added that getting Napanee on the roster also stretches the Bay of Quinte Region reach a little bit closer to the Quebec border, which is an important step for local tourism moving forward, in being able to attract more visitors from Eastern Canada.
