A Belleville man has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison, along with other conditions in connection with various child pornography-related offences.
Fifty-six-year-old Peter Palmer was given his punishment in Belleville Court on Friday, after pleading guilty to charges of possessing, distributing and making child porn, as well as making arrangements to commit a sexual offence against a child, back in September.
Palmer had been arrested in 2018 after engaging in email conversations with a Belleville Police officer, who had posed as the father of a 10-year-old girl and had offered the fictional girl for sex and arranged a meeting.
Palmer was also found to have child porn on a cell phone and to have shared that through an app.
Along with the jail time, Palmer must submit a sample to the DNA data bank, be added to the sex offender registry for life and is banned from going anywhere where children might frequent, or owning weapons for 10 years after his release.
In handing down his sentence, Justice Patrick Hurley noted the need to deter these types of offences and noted the importance of proactive police investigations into people who prey on children.
