A Belleville man has been found guilty of various child pornography-related offences after a decision in Belleville Court on Friday.
Fifty-six-year-old Peter Palmer had pleaded guilty to charges of possession of and distributing child porn, but was also convicted of making child porn and making arrangements to commit a sexual offence against a child, by Justice Patrick Hurley.
Crown Attorney Lee Burgess tells Quinte News the two charges he was convicted of relate to email conversations he had with an undercover Belleville Police Officer in 2018.
The officer had posed as the father of a 10-year-old girl, whom he was offering for sex, and arranged a meeting with Palmer, where he was arrested and charged.
Palmer was also found to have child pornography on a cell phone and to have shared that through an app.
Burgess added that while Palmer had originally pleaded guilty to all of the charges, his plea was struck after he testified that he was actually meeting for a sexual encounter, but that testimony was not believed by Justice Hurley.
Palmer will be sentenced on November 19, 2020.
