On Monday night, Belleville Senators goaltender Filip Gustavsson faced a total of 18 shots in a shutout win over Laval. Last night, he faced 21 shots in the second period alone as the Rocket skated to a 3-1 victory.
The score was close but the game was not. Shots on goal tell the story, 48-17 Laval including 21-2 in the second period. B-Sens coach Troy Mann expected a strong start by Laval after their 3-0 loss Monday.
Lukas Vejdemo broke a scoreless tie at 15:14 of the second period as Laval skated to a 1-0 lead through 40 minutes. However Mann says Gustavsson was the only reason it was close.
Jan Mysak gave the Rocket insurance at 5:21 of the third with his first goal of the season to make it 2-0.
Vitaly Abramov scored Belleville’s lone goal, his second of the season late in the third. Alex Belzile iced the victory with his first of the season.
The B-Sens wrapped up a stretch of five games in eight days. They don’t play again until Monday night when they face the Rocket again, this time in Montreal.
