Prince Edward County council is hoping the City of Belleville’s staff and council will agree to discuss lowering the water rates Belleville charges to the county for its residents in Rossmore and nearby Fenwood Gardens.
As it stands, Prince Edward County is paying considerably more for Belleville’s bulk water than would the owner of a business using it to fill up cisterns and swimming pools.
Ameliasburgh Ward Councillor Janice Maynard says that now the county has taken over billing and other administration for water service from Belleville it would be reasonable that the rates be lowered.
“We’ve been partners for all of our existence, we’re basically joined at the hip. Belleville and Ameliasburgh residents share education, recreation, family life, and shopping. We work, live, and play together,” said Maynard.
Prince Edward County will now formally ask the City of Belleville to begin discussions on the issue.
