The City of Belleville’s on-demand public transit service has attracted the interest of the City of Ottawa.
Speaking on CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show Wednesday morning, Belleville Transit’s Operations Manager Paul Buck said the city’s on-demand service has worked well and the number of riders using it continues to increase.
Recently the City of Ottawa contacted Buck about on-demand service as they look to cut costs as ridership declines due to the pandemic.
“We offer them ideas on how on-demand can affect every size transit service so there’s always an option where it may be of benefit.”
The on-demand transit service allows people to book appointments for buses to pick them up, using a computer app, a phone app, or a phone call to Belleville Transit.
The apps and service was a first of its kind.
Several communities from as far away as Australia have contacted Belleville Transit to learn more about the service since it first started in 2018.
