Two people were injured after a grease fire in Belleville on Tuesday evening.
Belleville Firefighters responded to a home on Moira Street West just after 6:00 p.m., where they say flames had ignited after droplets of canola oil made contact with a hot oven burner.
When they got to the scene, a woman was having difficulty breathing and a man suffered some minor burns to his hands. Both were treated by firefighters and paramedics, with the woman taken to Belleville General Hospital for further care.
Three children in the home weren’t hurt.
Senior Fire Prevention Officer Norm Mitts credited the family with using a pot lid to control the stove top flames, preventing them from spreading and says the home was also equipped with working smoke alarms.
A damage estimate from the accidental blaze is estimated around $500.
