The Belleville Police responded to 59 calls for service between 5 a.m. on March 1, 2021 and 5 a.m. on March 2, 2021.
Strong Winds Causing Hazardous Road Conditions
On March 1, 2021, strong winds sweeping through the Belleville area caused hazardous road conditions during the afternoon. At 3:52 p.m., police were called to Herchimer Ave. for a light standard that was down with wires going across the roadway. Shortly thereafter, at 5:06 p.m., officers were called to Station St. near Farley Ave. for a hydro pole that broke near the bottom and was held up only by the wires. Both roadways were closed for a period of time until the debris could be removed to ensure the safety of the motorists.
Motor Vehicle Collisions
On March 1, 2021 at approximately 12:06 p.m., police were called to North Front St. and Moira St. for a report of a single motor vehicle collision. The driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with the corner of the bridge. Luckily, the driver did not sustain any injuries and only had to contend with property damage. A 22-year-old male from Belleville was charged with careless driving.
On March 1, 2021 at approximately 5:25 p.m., police received a call for a motor vehicle collision in the area of University Ave. Witnesses advised that a vehicle lost control, hit a parked car and left the scene of the accident. The suspect vehicle and the driver later attended The Belleville Police Service. A 33-year-old Belleville woman was charged with careless driving and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.
