The ECHL affiliate of the Ottawa and Belleville Senators has become a casualty of COVID-19.
The Brampton Beast announced Thursday that the team will fold and cease operations immediately.
The team had its 2019/2020 playoff run stopped and opted not to play in 2020/21, because of the pandemic, and staff say the uncertainty around COVID-19 made it difficult to plan for 2021/22.
President and General Manager Cary Kaplan said in a statement, “Three seasons of COVID was just too much for our modest hockey team to sustain.”
The Beast operated in Brampton for just over seven years and held affiliations with the Senators, along with the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning, as well.
