How is affordable housing calculated in Prince Edward County?
Council wants to know.
At Thursday’s Committee of the Whole, council passed a resolution by Councillor Phil St. Jean asking staff to prepare a report outlining how affordable housing is calculated and the options available through land use planning to achieve affordable ownership and rental choices.
St. Jean says residents have been telling him that they don’t understand what affordable housing truly is.
“Defining clearly for not just council but, for the public, what is affordable housing in Prince Edward County. What does it mean? What is that dollar amount? Once you’ve achieved that, in my view, then you can formulate a plan to tackle the problem. We all know it’s a problem.”
The report will be brought forward to a Committee of the Whole meeting before the end of June
